Fans erupt in celebration as Bury FC secure promotion

The Shakers won 4-0 in front of almost 9,000 fans to go up as champions

Fans celebrate on the pitch at Gigg Lane

Bury FC fans have erupted in jubilation as their side’s resurgence up the football pyramid began. Six years ago, the club were kicked out of the football league in what was the darkest day in the club’s 140-year history.

But just two years after two supporter-led groups merged to form the current phoenix club, they have secured their first promotion, to the eighth tier of English football.

They needed just a point at home to Burscough in order to be crowned North West Counties League Premier Division champions.

And they romped home with a hat-trick from Tyler James, securing a 4-0 victory. It was party time in the stands for the whopping 8,719 fans in attendance.

And after the final-whistle, they streamed onto the pitch and let off smoke bombs as they celebrated the good times returning to Gigg Lane.
