The BBC chat show apologised to viewers after a guest made a language error
Actress Sally Phillips appeared on The One Show with Ben Miller to promote their brand new series, Austin. Moments into the show host Laura Laverne issued an apology to viewers over the use of language.
As Sally spoke about working on Austin, she said: “We did have a word with each other early on, we were like ‘oh sh*t, he’s really good'” as she spoke about working with Love On the Spectrum’s Michael Theo.
The topic swiftly moved on, but moments after Laura Laverne issued an apology as she stated: “Speaking of language, we should just apologise for any fruity language you may have heard there… Sorry”
It was then that co-host Alex Jones questioned: “Was it me?” in shock before Claudia Winkleman joked: “I think it was me, I’ll take it.”
Miranda star Sally Phillips and Ben Miller are both starring in lead roles in ABC’s new series, Austin. The show follows a recently cancelled children’s author who meets his neurodivergent son by chance, who he had no idea existed.
He then realises that embracing the young man may be the path to redemption. Ben who plays the shamed author, previously shared: “It seems to mean different things to different people. Some people get cancelled and you never hear from them again, while for others it only seems to increase their popularity.
“Name one person who’s been cancelled, and everyone would have a different opinion about whether they should, or in fact have been.”
He continued: “There’s an online mob, to be sure, who can take against someone – sometimes for the right reasons, sometimes not – while others get away with the most heinous things. It’s definitely a thing worth making fun of. Anything we’re supposed to be frightened of, we should make fun of.”
Viewers watching The One Show during Tuesday’s (1st April) episode, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) as @AmyJoanne__ asked: “Did she just say sh*t?”.
@thomasoxley added: “Come on, ‘sh*t’ should be allowed before the watershed these days!” as @robdriscoll1 wrote: “Oops #SallyPhillips just dropped the S-bomb on #theoneshow. It was barely noticeable of course but I waited …. and yes they apologised”.
The One Show airs on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
