Whether you’re a Mario or Zelda fan, there are great LEGO deals available to please both types of gamer.
It’s rare to see LEGO sets go on sale, especially ones with a large number of bricks. That’s why it’s such a nice surprise to see two iconic Nintendo-themed LEGO sets drop in price a couple of months ahead of the new Switch 2 console release.
The two sets in question are the LEGO Super Mario The Mighty Bowser and the LEGO The Legend of Zelda Great Deku Tree set. George is selling the Bowser set for £179.24 (down from £230) while Amazon has the Deku Tree going for £220.99 (down from £259.99).
Both of these models are derived from Nintendo’s two tentpole franchises, Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda. The Bowser set has been around since 2022, but the Zelda set is a much more recent addition having first hit shelves in September 2024.
Taking a look at the LEGO Bowser set, it’s made up of 2,807 pieces in total. That works out to 6p per brick, which is considered a great deal in the world of LEGO.
When fully built, Bowser can be posed in a variety of positions however you’d like him to appear while displayed on the shelf. You’ll also build a small platform for him to stand on with two fiery sconces flanking his left and right.
Meanwhile, the Deku Tree set is made up of 2,500 pieces, which works out to 9p per brick. That’s still considered to be a decent deal for a LEGO set, and it makes up for the slightly higher price thanks to the number of minifigures it comes with.
As this set is a 2-in-1, you’re able to built two different versions of the Deku Tree. One looks like the version in Ocarina of Time from the Nintendo 64, whereas the other one represents the Deku Tree from the Switch’s Breath of the Wild.
As these two Deku Trees are from different games, you’ll get two different versions of Link and Zelda, too. One set of minifigures wear the green tunics from Ocarina of Time, while the other pair wear the teal blue tunics from Breath of the Wild.
Reviews for these LEGO sets are mostly positive, with Bowser carrying a 4.9 star score and the Deku Tree a 4.8. “This was an easy build despite the size and complexity first viewed on. The build is rock solid and feels weighty. Had a lot of fun with this one,” said one customer reviewing the Bowser set.
Another Bowser fan left this review: “I always underestimate the share size of some of these builds, and Bowser was no exception! He is quite large! I truly enjoyed some of the internal workings to make him come to life and make him shoot a fireball. They felt very innovative and creative.”
Of the Deku Tree set, one customer said: “Wow, this is quite a treat if you like Lego and Nintendo gaming. It is so different from the very basic Lego sets I remember as a child, both in size and detail.” Another review reads: “Beautiful set with a fun and flexible build, and lovely colours. This is a big set, though there are a fair few unused bits depending on which configuration you go with. Lots of attention to detail regardless, even in the manual which has some fantastic art too.”
One customer had a less than stellar experience with the Bowser set, though: “When me and my daughter finally finished it we went to find where to shoot out the fire ball and when I moved the arm it destroyed the inside completely and we just gave up.”
Looking to the Zelda set, the main criticism customers had was the price. “At £259.99 (RRP), the expensive price is unavoidable purely for the detail required to do the Zelda franchise justice. However any Lego fans with a mild interest in Zelda, may opt to miss this one out.”
For more affordable LEGO Mario sets, there are a few other decent options out there. The Piranha Plant set is currently available for £40.99 (29% off), while the LEGO Super Mario Adventures set comes in at £36.99 (18% off).
