The old sports pavilion in Mossley will be demolished and replaced with a café/bar and function room.

In recent years the building has fallen victim to vandalism and has slowly turned to rack and ruin.

But the new plan to transform it could see it go from unused changing rooms to a community hub and café.

Works4U, the company behind the plans, say the plot on the corner of Egmont Street playing fields will be brought back into use as a community asset.

When the renovation work is complete, the new pavilion will be open from 7am until 11pm and employ three staff members.

The pavilion was originally built in the 1950s and later reconstructed in the 1960s/1970s with a slightly different layout as original.

The building was mainly used as the changing rooms for the playing pitches, which it sits next to.

Back in 2023, Works4U collaborated with Mossley Town Council to gather ideas from locals on what they wanted to see.

As well as creating the café, Works4U wants to provide training in hospitality skills, a place for the community and park users to enjoy and potentially to bring more local jobs.

Works4U, a Stalybridge-based educational organisation, said: “We seek to enhance the lives of all learners by helping them to raise their self-esteem, build their confidence and achieve their full potential in terms of education and vocational training, recognised qualifications, skills and employment enhancement.”
