Emmerdale fans shouted “not a chance” as Joe Tate was seen leaving Emmerdale behind after his kidney transplant was successful.

In recent episodes, Joe orchestrated a violent plan to take Caleb’s kidney for himself as it was revealed that he’s suffering from chronic kidney disease.

Joe returned to the village in 2024 after a long absence, and fans grew suspicious as to why he had bothered to come back to the Dales. At first, it seemed as though he wanted to get closer to half-brother Noah Dingle, but the truth eventually came out.

After attempting to spike Caleb and failing, Joe resorted to violence and hired someone to stab him while at the depot. The stabbing was worse than anticipated, and Joe panicked as he rushed him to Dr Crowley.

Dr Crowley struggled to hide his disgust at Caleb’s condition, lamenting Joe for taking things to far as he worried he wouldn’t be able to save him after the transplant was done.

Caleb managed to survive, and Dr Crowley transported him to Hotten General Hospital and informed him and Ruby that he had to remove his kidney as it became injured in the stabbing.

Joe worried as his dodgy doctor informed him that the guy he hired to stab Caleb, Shaun, had been arrested. During Monday’s (March 31) episode, the police had no further updates but were scanning Caleb’s car for evidence.

As Caleb lay in his hospital bed, he received a video call from Joe who was still pretending to be in Chicago. He checked in with his uncle, and tried not to look panicked when Caleb mentioned that he wanted to speak to him later.

Joe hung up and viewers saw him sat in a hospital room with Dr Crowley, informing him that his flight was on standby. He told the doctor that it was time for him to leave, and he’s saying farewell to Emmerdale for good.

Fans were quick to react on social media, and taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), @TonyCoffey15 wrote: “He’s got a cheek, Facetimes’ the man whose kidney he stole, and nearly killed, whispering doctor is the one who will spill the beans on Joe”.

@Pinkladyxxxxx added: “So is Joe just going to just disappear now, with Dawn maybe?” as @LisasCrisps penned: “CALEB BABES HE HARVESTED YOUR KIDNEY DO NOT CALL HIM MATE!!!” and @roscoeleebarnes theorised: “Not a chance Joe has left for good”.

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
